Hey! We did it!

The Open Letter crowdfunding campaign concluded with $34,853 raised from 308 different contributors. We’re humbled by, and thankful for, the support this project received!

Now it’s time to put that money to work! After Indiegogo platform fees and credit card/Paypal fees were subtracted from our total, we had $30,668.66. That was enough for us to buy one ad in the Sunday LA Times, which has nearly one million readers.

The letter will run on Sunday, November 10th!

ace80c3a6Furthermore, we get to make a $6803.66 donation to the Alliance for Climate Education, a non-profit we’ve selected due to their focus on educating young people about the importance of addressing climate change.

We want to make sure that as many people as possible know about the ad run beforehand. Let your networks know!

And of course we want the actual addressees to see the ad, so we’ve put together a list of their Twitter handles and email addresses. Let them know there will be a message for them in this Sunday’s LA Times!

  1. Loved your open letter in the LA times today but I do wish you had added one more category. If you are a parent – Your food choices can help save the environment and your children’s future.
You can’t can’t call yourself an environmentalist and still eat meat. Simple but true. Thanks and good luck.

  2. Just saw your ad after returning from viewing the stunning documentary “Harmony: a new way of looking at our world”, feeling inspired and encouraged but kind of powerless. Then The Open Letter in my Sunday paper jumped out at me to show that the assertive push from your stunning impetus expresses everyone’s right to protest big time against the powerful oppressive forces of the status quo. Thank you!!

    • Thanks, Elizabeth! I’m glad it resonated with you. We’re big fans of everyone doing anything and everything they can – whatever form that takes – to get humanity moving on this.

  3. I have held on to this ad since it was printed in the Los Angeles Times. I have to questions – 1) Any response for any one of the people you addressed this to? 2) What do you need help with now?

The letter was so well written, taking words and thoughts right out of me and placing them in one place! Wonderfully done.

    • Unfortunately, none of the addressees have responded to the letter so far. We have been weighing our options in getting it published as an Op Ed in other newspapers, as well as considering another fundraising campaign. Nothing is off the table!

We have also been working on other climate-related projects in the meantime. For example, Jordyn has been helping out the Lobster Boat Blockade legal defense with some web design.

Thanks for your support! Let us know if you have any ideas for getting the letter out there.
